Kings County 211 is one of our community partner invested in addressing food insecurities and connecting our students and community to various other resources.  Please visit their site (, text 898211, or call 211 for information to food resources, housing, legal services, utilities, health, and other needs.

Food Day Resources

Food Day Resources, a ASG and Student Life and Engagement Program effort, seeks to build or enhance community and campus partnerships in hopes of creating a holistic approach to serving students in need of food resources. Food Day Resources provides access to food through various efforts to help fight food insecurity among the student community at WHCL.


Increase the awareness of campus and community resources that can serve to address possible basic needs concerns. 
Promote campus services, programs, and up-coming events centered on basic needs through strategic planning, partner collaboration, and marketing.
To provide students with more sustainable options to reduce food insecurities and address other basic needs.


Food Day Distribution – a fresh produce distribution offered once a month to WHCL students and surrounding community members
Food Day Check-Ins – local food/basic needs resources table once a month after the food distribution. This services is only for WHCL students, staff, and faculty.
Bread Distribution – local bakery bread donation distribution offered bi-weekly. Hosted by Equity and Eagle Pantry Club.
Short-Term Food thru Resiliency Pantry – upon referral from Financial Aid, WHCL students are provide with 2-3 days’ worth of basic groceries
Fight Hunger Campaign – through the generous donations of donors and upon Financial Aid referral, WHCL students may be eligible to receive meal cards to Vel’s Café for hot meal.

Vel's Café

Effective July 1st Vel's Cafe is open in the Student Union.

Monday - Friday: 11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
