Welcome to this gateway to West Hills and a leader in many fields of study. West Hills represents the very best of what a public, two-year community college district can be: A diverse community of talented people who enrich our society through education, workforce training and basic skills achievement.
Our extraordinary students give us purpose and daily motivation. Our colleges are incubators of opportunity and springboards to productive lives for students living in our local communities in the central valley and beyond. One of West Hills extraordinary assets and one of which I am especially proud is our commitment to opportunities for advancement for people from all walks of life. Our colleges and educational center serves more students from low-income families than any other similar college in the region, and nearly two-thirds of our graduates are, as I was, part of their family's first generation to earn a postsecondary degree.
Our world-class faculty includes many who are the top scholars in their fields. They are actively engaged in teaching and student success because they love learning and discovery. As many of our faculty will tell you, teaching provides a way to stay young at heart, to maintain a lifetime of active learning: It is in every respect a profession of hope.
West Hills enjoys a special relationship with the San Joaquin valley. Faculty, staff and students provide informed service to almost 50 civic organizations and we constantly seek opportunities to innovate. In fact, West Hills is the only community college in California to earn three Governor’s Awards for Innovation in Higher Education. We have an inner, internal urge for progress. We are about doing, not being done in our relentless pursuit of student success.
I hope you will visit our beautiful colleges and attend some of our many educational, cultural and athletic events you will not be disappointed. In the meantime, please enjoy your visit online.
