West Hills College Coalinga is now accepting applications for its annual Chevron Fun Physical Science Camp.
Two camps will be held: one in Coalinga and one in Mendota. Applications for the camp must be received by Friday, June 1 at noon.
The free camps are geared toward elementary school students. They will focus on hands-on physical science with the goal of encouraging the students to explore STEM fields: science, technology, engineering and math.
“STEM camps provide children a fun and exciting way to engage with science,” said Alex Perez, Executive Director of the West Hills Community College Foundation. “The future of this region depends on engineers and scientists. This program supported by Chevron helps prepare these children for that future. If we can spark their imagination and interest while they're young hopefully it will stay with them until they get to college or beyond.”
The Coalinga camp will be held on the West Hills College Coalinga campus and feature four sessions from June 11 to July 6.
Camp 1 will run from June 11 to June 15 and be for 7th grade campers. Camp 2 will run from June 18 to June 22 and be for 6th graders. Camp 3 will run from June 25 to June 29 and be for 4th and 5th graders. Finally, Camp 4 will be held from July 2 to July 6 and be for 2nd and 3rd grade students. All camps will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Seats are limited so parents are urged to sign students up now. Students will be selected by drawing and only 20 students will be accepted for each camp.
Applications are available in the West Hills College Coalinga administration building at 300 Cherry Lane. For more information about the Coalinga Chevron Fun Physical Science Camp, contact Angela Eldridge at 559-934-2221 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
