Lemoore College’s annual Teach Conference for college students, community members and high school students interested in becoming educators will be held on Nov. 9 at WHCL.

The free Teach! 2018: Becoming the Greatest of All-Time (G.O.A.T.) Educator conference will feature informative panels and information sessions featuring some of the Valley’s top educators and teacher training programs.

“The event is a way to provide information about teaching to our college students, high school students, and the community,” said James Preston, WHCL Vice President of Educational Services. “We have some innovative and amazing current educators who come to speak to our students on a variety of relevant topics to inform them and prepare them for the teaching profession.”

The conference will include a keynote speaker, Professor Jonathan Hernandez. Professor Jonathan Hernandez (Professor H) is the founder of Rise 2 It Productions and a Communications instructor at Porterville College. Professor H has provided motivational and inspiring messages to college and high school groups across the state the past few years.

Teach! 2018 will also include panels, networking opportunities and a chance to speak with representatives from universities with teaching programs. Information will also be presented about WHCL’s teacher prep transfer programs and TEAM Teach teacher preparation program.

The conference will additionally serve as a focal point for a project WHCL’s T.E.A.M. Teach is leading.

Lemoore College’s T.E.A.M. Teach program is the regional lead for the Education Futures project, which has a mission to support and engage community colleges from Bakersfield to Stockton in the development of teacher preparation programs at the community college level. A number of community colleges from our region including College of the Sequoias, Bakersfield College, and Delta College will be bringing students and staff to the event.

“Those who attend this conference will walk away knowledgeable about the many career opportunities available in the field of education and with an understanding of the steps and resources available to prepare them to the enter education,” Preston said. “Beyond that, we also hope to provide inspiration and our support for anyone who wants to become an educator through this event.”

Lunch is included and there will also be a prize drawing.

The event will be held in the WHCL conference room, room 253, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

There is no cost to attend. Less than 150 seats are still available. View a full agenda and sign up now at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/teach-2018-conference-for-future-teachers-tickets-50929900704
