5C Summer Camp Update

A message from Vice President of Educational Services James Preston

Dear Golden Eagles,

I am pleased to announce this week we will launch our 17th Annual 5c Experience (Creative and Cool Community College Camp). We anticipate having our largest camp in the past 5 years with approximately 170-180 6th-8th graders who will spend two weeks on our campus (June 17th-June 27th) from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Monday-Thursday. Our 5c mission is to plant a seed in the mind of young people that college is in their future. We do this best by having them take college-type courses, surrounding them with college mentors (8 to 1 mentor to student ratio), and having them engage on our college campus. We are grateful to a number of schools, migrant programs, and central region partners who have provided scholarships for the students to attend from a number of surrounding towns including Lemoore, Hanford, Stratford, Laton, and Avenal… in fact, 100% of our students are coming on some sort of scholarship and our program is completely grant and partnership funded. We also have 12 college mentors this summer who were students at the 5c Experience when they were in middle school! I have attached our schedule so you know where we will be on campus during the next two weeks.

Please feel free to drop by any of our classes, engage with the students, and join us for our 6th C: Celebration on Thursday, June 27th from 1:30-3:00 in the Golden Eagle Arena.

Our 5c Mc’s this year are Andrew Martinez and Brittney Juarez and they will be running the day-to-day operations of 5c, but if there are any issues with our students please be sure to contact me directly and I will pass the communication on to them. Thanks for your support and thanks to all of you who have made it possible to get 5c ready to go for 2019!
