General Information

West Hills College Coalinga offers lower-division transfer courses to meet the general education requirements for transfer to the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC), as well as most major preparation for some of the most popular baccalaureate degree programs. Preparing students to transfer to four-year universities is one of the primary missions at West Hills College Coalinga. There are multiple ways for students to transfer depending on their individual goals. Your counselor will work with you to establish an appropriate transfer path that’s right for you. Since requirements may vary from institution to institution, it is critical that students explore potential majors and transfer universities early. The Associate Degree for Transfer program is a joint effort of the California Community Colleges and the CSU that makes it easier for students to transfer between the two systems. Students who complete a new AA-T or AS-T degree will be guaranteed admission to the CSU system with the opportunity to complete an associate and bachelor’s degrees in only 120 units if admitted into a similar degree program. Students will be given a special GPA advantage when applying to CSU impacted campuses or majors, enter with junior standing, and will need only 60 more semester units to complete a bachelor’s degree. Six UC campuses offer guaranteed admission to California community college students that meet specific requirements through participation in the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program. TAG applicants receive early review of your academic records, early admission notification and specific guidance about major preparation and general education coursework. Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)

The IGETC pattern requires completion of a minimum of 37 semester units of lower division work with a C grade or better in each course (C- is not allowed). Specific subject areas of IGETC includes: English Communication, Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning, Arts and Humanities, Social and Behavior Sciences, and Physical and Biological Sciences. IGETC is accepted by both CSU and UC, with minor differences, so it is a good option if you are undecided about the system to which you will transfer.
