Life Hack Tuesday: How to Increase Your Productivity

Balancing your life and all of its components can be overwhelming, especially when college and a job is involved. Luckily, it is possible and here are some tips on how stay on top of everything you have going on.

Set a Daily Routine

People thrive when routine and structure are involved. Some people do better when every second of their day is planned and accounted for and some people do better with a basic structure that allows for wiggle room. Either way, some structure is necessary, especially when it comes to being productive.

When creating your routine, your goal should be to follow through with it every single day. You have to start somewhere, even if it’s just getting out of bed at the same time every day.  Start there and create a morning routine that works best for your schedule. The more consistent you are, the more natural your routine will be to follow, and taking the time to complete bigger tasks like completing homework assignments or studying for exams will become second nature.

Write it Down

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. Write. It. Down. Your goals, your schedule, your assignment and exam due dates. Write it all down. Get a planner and use it. This will help to keep you on track with everything, as well as build your routine. If you write it down, you don’t have to store it in your head which leaves more freedom to spend your day doing literally anything else.

Set Clear Goals that are Attainable

Writing down your dreams is important, but so is writing down goals that are clear and realistic. Creating goals that can be easily accomplished will boost your confidence and fuel your desire to complete even more. It’s all good and well to set a goal to wake up at 6:00 every single morning, but if you don’t go to bed until 4AM every night, the chances of successfully waking up at 6AM are slim to none. Don’t set yourself up for failure by setting goals that you simply cannot meet.

Be Flexible

Okay, so this contradicts everything that this blog post is about, but it’s a necessary reminder. Life happens and every now and then you’ll have a bad day or just a day where nothing goes according to plan. This is okay. As long as you’re able to be flexible you can conquer the unexpected change of plans.

Your journey through college can be completely overwhelming and chaotic, but it doesn’t have to be. Set up a basic structure for your day and follow it. Remember that life happens and being able to adapt to change will take you far. You can do this!
