Life has been grand since joining TEAM Teach.  As one of the founding members, I realized that teaching is indeed a noble profession.   Since TEAM, I received a BA Degree in Liberal Studies from CSU Fresno, worked for several school districts as an aide and TEAM Tutor, and substitute taught.  However due to unforseen circumstances, I am not pursuing my teaching credential at this time.  Instead I have chosen a different route.   I am in the process of obtaining my medical billing and coding certification in hopes of becoming a health care educator.

Although I may have not completed my credential, I have become an advocate for physical education and leukemia research.  I have completed 3 century (100 mile) bike rides (and many more) as a member of Team in Training, a sports endurance program sponsored by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.  In addition, I am a member of several bicycle coalitions where we teach children the importance of nutrition, health, and nutrition.

Alvis!

I have been working as a substitute teacher since last April.  This school year, I have missed only two days of work.  That is 140 dollars a day!  Oh, have I told you I graduated Fresno Pacific?  I are an proud holder of a BA in Liberal Arts. But, here is the real reason I am sending this to you.  I just passed all three sections of the CSET.

I owned it!  I was really worried about it because it is the most comprehensive test I have ever taken.

I wanted to let you know that I am enjoying my final student teaching at Engvall Elementary.  I am in a sixth grade classroom with Mrs. Yvonne Pimentel-Sousa as my master teacher. My biggest challenge so far has been trying to motivate the students to become interested in the academic content.  Sixth graders are not as easily persuaded as third graders were.  It has also been a positive experience to improve my classroom management skills.  Last semester, when I started teaching the students were already "trained" on how to behave, but this semester I entered the classroom at the beginning of the year and I am now experiencing how to build that productive yet postive classroom environment.  It has been an enjoyable challenge.

I started the credential program this week.  I hope the saying, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" is true.  I actually don't think it will be that bad, but right now it is a little overwhelming.  I believe once we get started it will all make sense.  I'm doing the dual credential  program which only takes a extra semester to get special ed and multiple subject.  I have been offered a job with Cal Tutoring Company, but I'm holding off until the semester starts and I see how my time pans out and what I'm able to take on before I commit to anything.  I have to admit it was difficult going back to school after graduating and having the summer off.  Well I just wanted to give you a quick update and say Hi.
