California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids Program

CalWORKs is a funded program designated to provide support services to students receiving cash aid from any county welfare agency. Its main focus is to provide the student with individual:

  • Academic Counseling
  • Vocational Planning
  • Childcare Assistance
  • Paid Work-Study
  • Job Work Experience

The goal of the program is to empower the individual to leave welfare and make a living for themselves and their family. Students will have the opportunity to select from various vocational certificate programs of study such as:

  • Administration of Justice
  • Agriculture
  • Business
  • Agriculture Mechanics
  • Animal Science Business
  • Computer Information Systems
  • Crop Science
  • Early Childhood
  • Education
  • Educational Assistant
  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Equine Science
  • Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Office Management & Technology
  • Performing Arts
  • Psychology
  • Trade Technology & Industry
If you have children, West Hills College offers services at three child development centers located in Coalinga, Lemoore and Firebaugh. This service is paid for by CalWORKs.Students who desire to work while attending classes can chose to work at the college or at a business off campus. CalWORKs will pay the state minimum wage or a negotiated wage with the business. Students are encouraged to apply for Free Application for Federal Financial Aid to help offset the high cost of books, materials and other school expenses.For more information contact:
