West Hills College Lemoore is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium and in the SOC Degree Network System-2.

As a SOC College WHCL commits to the educational needs and criteria/requirements outlined in the official Degree Network Agreement.  The SOC Program:

  • provides networks of similiar degree programs
  • establish a "home college" for the servicemember
  • reduce loss of credits through guarantee of transfer rules
  • provides the issuance of a SOC Student Agreement

SOC Consortium
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), established in 1972, is a consortium of national higher education associations and more than 1,700 institutional members. SOC Consortium institutional members subscribe to principles and criteria to ensure that quality academic programs are available to military students, their family members, civilian employees of the Department of Defense (DoD) and Coast Guard, and veterans. 

SOC Degree Network System

The SOC Degree Network System (DNS) consists of a subset of SOC Consortium member institutions selected by the military Services to deliver specific Associate and Bachelor's degree programs to servicemembers and their families. Institutional members of the SOC DNS agree to special requirements and obligations that provide military students, their spouses and college-age children with opportunities to complete college degrees without suffering loss of academic credit due to changes of duty station.

American Council on Education's Commission on Education Credit (ACE)

WHCL awards credit for military training and experience based on recomendation provided by ACE guidelines.  A maximum of twenty seven (27) semester units of elective degree credit may be awarded for those service schools that the ACE Directory recommends for specifc lower division credit, but for which WHCL does not offer a specific equivalent.  In addition, of three (3) semester units for Health Education 35 (GE requirement) will be awarded.  Residency requirements of twelve (12) units must be completed before non-traditional credits are posted officially on current transcript.

Military Credit Information

WHCL students may submit one and/or both of the following options to receive military credit:

  • Official Joint Services Transcript (JST)
  • DD-214 (A DD-214 does not constitute credit; length of service of one year is required)
