Nursing Program and Application Information

If you have been out of the West Hills Community College District for more than two semesters, you MUST re-apply for admissions in order to re-gain access to your username, password, and student email - all of which are required to apply for the nursing program. 

The TEAS testing process has changed for application year 2024 please see documents attached for information

WHCL nursing program is a once a year admission (fall only).  30 students are accepted into the traditional program and 10 students into the LVN-RN program each year (depending on space availability).  Acceptance notification in early April followed by a mandatory orientation at the end of April. New cohorts begin in the fall semester in August for traditional program and spring start for LVN-RN program.

Mission

The mission of the Lemoore College (WHCL) Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) program is to prepare entry-level registered nurses to be providers of care across the health/illness continuum and as members within the profession. The program respects the individuality of students and recognizes that each student has different educational, experiential, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic backgrounds, and a unique support system. The aim of the curriculum is to provide a positive, innovative learning model that fosters the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills so that the nursing graduate is equipped to deliver care to a diverse population in a variety of healthcare settings. Nursing graduates will collaborate with members of the health care team, effectively communicate, become politically aware, and committed to lifelong learning.

Application Process
  1. First Step is to apply to the college. This is necessary to obtain a student ID number and a @my.whccd.edu email.  Without a WHCL email, you will not be able to receive important application information and confirmation of receipt of electronic application
  2. Complete separate online application for the Nursing Program and follow the instructions to apply
  3. The online application link will be available beginning January 8th 2024 (Monday) - February 19th 2024 (Monday).

  5. For online application purposes official transcripts will be required from All colleges/programs attended (including LVN programs)  they must be uploaded in PDF format into the online application.(failure to provide all college transcripts will cause application to be incomplete and therefore denied)
    1. Have updated official transcripts sent to you by email or mailed; save or scan in PDF form to upload to your application.  
    2. We will not review applications with transcripts loaded that are not copies of official transcripts.  Screenshots of college portal transcripts or copies of college portal transcripts are considered unofficial and will not be accepted.
    3. We will accept only West Hills College unofficial transcripts downloaded from your student portal.
  6. After application review, pre-selected students will be contacted via email and required to submit official transcripts electronically to a designated link that will be provided via the email by a specific deadline.
  7. Pre-selected students may also be required to submit any further documentation that may be required for final processing for application. Failure to provide official transcripts or other requirements as requested will be removed from the pre-selected list.
  8. Current American Heart Association CPR Card - BLS Basic Life Support provider card turned in at the time of application

  9. Copy of valid driver’s license-copy at the time of application
  10. Valid/current Auto Insurance- document collected upon pre-selection
  11. Multi-Criteria based documents will also need to be uploaded in PDF to the online application. *see multi-criteria document for additional documentation that will need to be provided

If applicant is offered a seat in the nursing program

  1. Criminal Background Clearance- post-acceptance into program (2nd stage of acceptance)
  2. Health Screen Clearance/Physical-post-acceptance into program (2nd stage of acceptance) includes proof of COVID19 full vaccination 

 

Application Flow

    Prepare to have the following documents ready to be uploaded in PDF:

    • Copies of official transcripts from all colleges attended and those that state the degree posted PDF format only
      • Have an updated official transcripts sent to you by email or mailed; save or scan in PDF form to upload to your application.  
      • We will not review applications with transcripts loaded that are not copies of official transcripts.  Screenshots of college portal transcripts or copies of college portal transcripts are considered unofficial and will not be accepted.
    • Work experience form completed, signed by the appropriate individual and uploaded in PDF form
    • Second language verification. Form completed and signed by the appropriate individual and uploaded in PDF form
    • Documents for Life Experiences or Circumstances points as applies to each applicant
      • Proof of eligibility for Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS)
      • Proof of eligibility or receipt of financial aid under a program that may include but is not limited to: a fee waiver from the Board of Governors, Cal Grant Program, Federal Pell Grant program; or Cal Works
      • Paycheck stub from the period of time you were enrolled in RN prerequisite courses, or a letter from employer (must be on organization letterhead) verifying employment was at least part-time while completing courses
      • Proof of participation or eligibility for Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Upward Bound Program, or other
  • Before you being your application:

    • Review the list of required documents and have everything ready to upload
    • You can save your application progress at any time.
    • The application will time out at 45 minutes for security purposes; however, you will have the option to save your progress and resume where you left off at another time.

    Submit TEAS score to our department through ATI,
     this is a cost to you. TEAS scores must be received by deadline to be attached to the application. If not received application will not be processed.

    For online application the following documents are to be uploaded: as they apply to the applicant

    • Copies of official transcripts from all colleges attended including LVN programs for LVN-RN applicants.  See above for specific instructions regarding official transcripts.
    • Work experience form completed, signed by the appropriate individual and uploaded in PDF form

  • If you are pre-selected you will be required to provided the following documents. Pre-selection does not guarantee a spot in the program.

    If you are pre-selected you will receive an email with further instructions.

    • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (should match your unofficial that were submitted with online application)
    • Proof of valid and current car insurance
    • any additional documents required by our office.

     

  • In April letters of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent out via whccd.edu email.

    Orientation will be in late April

     

TEAS Score

A TEAS score 62% or higher TEAS is required for admission into program. TEAS scores must be sent electronically via ATI to our school (West Hills CC) for result validity and must be received in our office by close of the application period to be added to your application. If it is not received by the closing on the last day of the application period, the application cannot be processed for review. WHCL allows only 2 TEAS attempts to meet the 62% benchmark. If an applicant has taken 3 attempts and passed with a 62% or higher, they can apply with letter of explanation.

Please be advised to not take the TEAS more than 2 times as all other programs will not allow you to apply with more than 2 TEAS attempts. It is highly recommended you study and prepare for this exam as you would for any other course exam prior to taking it.
