WIN Center Biz Chat: California Highway Patrol

Learn more about the WIN Center's Biz Chat event with the California Highway Patrol!

The WIN Center hosted California Highway Patrol's Ken Bird for a Biz Chat about a career in the CHP on April 5.

Students were able to lounge around before the workshop began and chat among each other while enjoying the delicious cookies, lemonade and coffee provided by the WIN center.

The California Highway Patrol officer explained his daily workday and answered a lot of our questions. He mentioned that if you want a career in CHP you should submit your application when you turn 20 cecause it’s a long process. You do have to be 21 to start the job but it’s always great to get the paperwork out of the way.

If you’re really interested, start working on the requirements like all the physical training. Requirements can be found on the CHP website. During his talk, he made it clear that this was an extremely dangerous job full of stress and you have to make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. Lastly he showed a quick recap video on what the actual academy looked like and it was intimidating but he wrapped it up by saying that all the hard work will be stressful but the job is worth it if it is your dream.
