There are too many good things happening at West Hills. To name a few, Teach 2008, a T.E.A.M Teach event, was held at the Lemoore campus. The Lemoore and Coalinga Team Teach groups collaborated in the planning of Teach 2008. The day was designed to help future teachers leap into the teaching world. The event featured guest speakers from colleges and universities across the Valley. More than 150 people attended. Students from local high schools and community colleges as well as individuals from local communities participated.

The Avenal Family Connection, a resource center for children and families, held its ribbon cutting ceremony in February. The center is located at Tamarack Elementary School in Avenal. The project was funded by Kings County First 5 Children and Families Commission and supported by Reef Sunset Unified School District, City of Avenal and West Hills College.

West Hills College student and SGA president Claudia Walthing is training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. Her team is raising funds to help stop Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin Lymphoma and Myeloma from taking more lives. Claudia’s step-father passed away from cancer two weeks before her college graduation. She is running for a little girl named Miranda who was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia in December 2002.
On June 1, 2008, Claudia will be running in the 11th Annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego. Her goal is to raise $2,700. She would appreciate your contribution if you are able. All donations help with finding a cure of Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma and brings hope to patients and their families who are on battling these diseases.
