Word from the Editor

I can’t believe 2007 is almost a quarter of the way over!  Weren’t we just worried about Y2K?  I guess it’s a sign of maturity when you realized you’ve lived through part of history!

Speaking of history, West Hills Community College District got its start in 1932, which means we’re now starting our 75th year.  As we

begin to make plans to celebrate this milestone, we would like to ask that you take a look in all those drawers and cupboards and dig out any old pictures that you have of years-gone-by at West Hills.  We’re planning an anniversary publication that will feature lots of pictures plus profiles of individuals who were students or worked at the colleges/centers during each of the decades.  We’re also planning a timeline, a brief history of each location and listings of all of the presidents and trustees.  We’re scheduled to go to press in April so please take a few minutes to start looking now!  We can scan them and return to you.

While I’m putting in requests, please start thinking about all of those great graduation stories that I always seem to hear about the day of graduation!  The newspapers love them and this year I would like to do a series of them leading up to graduation.  We already did one in Coalinga about a brother and sister who will be graduating from West Hills the same day they graduate from Faith Christian Academy.  She’s 16 and he’s 17!  They’ll be continuing their education online at Chico State.  Pretty impressive and the story helped tell the community about the commitment West Hills has made to serving students.  Here’s a link to the story as it appeared in the Hanford Sentinel: http://hanfordsentinel.com/articles/2007/01/20/news/daily10.txt.
