West Hills College Coalinga’s Financial Aid Team Has a New Member
Leticia Lopez took a long detour before landing a position in the financial aid department at West Hills College Coalinga. After graduating from Avenal High School in 2003, Lopez traveled to Wellesley, Mass., to pursue two bachelor degrees in sociology and Spanish.
She returned to California and worked for Central Valley General Hospital, where she was the rural health marketing coordinator since November 2007.
Prior to Central Valley General Hospital, Lopez did a summer internship with Health Career Connection in Sacramento. Lopez was also employed with Wellesly Clapp Library as the circulation assistant and with Rancho La Estrella in Mexico as the secretary.
Lopez has had a strong tie to community service. Since fall 2003, she has participated in various community service projects. In 2004, she interned with Center for Work and Service where she developed an outreach program for 18 high school students at risk of dropping out.
In fall 2005 and summer 2006, Lopez traveled to Mexico to participate in two different community service projects. In Puebala, she worked for Escuela primera El Chamizal as a second grade teacher’s aide and taught English courses twice a week to a class of twenty students.
Lopez volunteered at Centro de Salud, a clinic in Huejuquilla, Jalisco, Mexico as a health educator to an Indigenous community.
In 2007, Lopez received two bachelor degrees in sociology and Spanish from Wellesley College, a women’s liberal arts college that was ranked the number fourth liberal arts college, according to the 2009 U.S. News and World Report.
Lopez also received a management basics certiciate and studied abroad at Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico.
Lopez currently resides in Avenal. She took several classes at West Hills College Coalinga during her summer breaks from Wellesley.
