OLYMPIC GAMES JOURNALIST SPEAKS AT WEST HILLS COLLEGE

The New York Times sports writer Lynn Zinser will speak at West Hills College Lemoore and Coalinga on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.  Zinser has covered four Olympic games and will cover the upcoming summer Olympic games in 2008 in Beijing.

Lynn Zinser has been a sports reporter at The New York Times since August 2003.  Since January 2005, Ms. Zinser has been the primary Olympics writer, covering not only the 2006 Turin Games, but also New York’s bid for the 2012 Olympics.  Before that, she was the New York Giants beat writer for two seasons. Prior to coming to The Times, Ms. Zinser was a sports feature writer for the Newark Star-Ledger.

That position followed stints at the Colorado Springs Gazette, Philadelphia Daily News, Charlotte Observer, Memphis Commercial Appeal and Syracuse Herald-Journal.  She was a sports columnist at the Gazette and has covered four Olympics since 1996. Ms. Zinser is a 1988 graduate of Syracuse University, where she earned a B.S. in newspaper journalism.

Ms. Zinser will speak at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12th in the Speech Arts Building at West Hills College Coalinga and will speak later that afternoon at West Hills College Lemoore at 4 p.m. in the Conference Center.

In addition to discussing her experiences covering four Olympic games and the upcoming summer Olympic games in 2008 in Beijing, she will address a wide range of related topics important to modern journalism.

In an age of instant information with an emphasis on big headlines and sound bites,

Lynn Zinser will explore the opportunity that journalists have to address larger issues and deeper stories that connect sports to our lives in ways you wouldn't expect ranging from business to crime to international politics.

Both events are free and the public is invited. Free refreshments will also be available. For more details, contact 934-2132.
