HISTORICAL POSTCARD COLLECTION PRESENTATION
PLANNED AT WEST HILLS COLLEGE
A collection of historical postcards from the Central San Joaquin Valley will be the focus of attention during presentations in November at West Hills Colleges.
Michael Semas began his interest in early area history in 2001 with the purchase of a local home of historical interest. His research of the home led him into studying the early history of Kings County.
Through his study, Semas has acquired old postcard views of the local communities and surrounding counties. His postcard collection exceeds 7,500 and includes many rare and forgotten scenes of the Central San Joaquin Valley.
Semas has published Kings County in Vintage Postcards and is currently working on his next publication, which will consist of a postcard collection of the oil industry of the west side of the Valley from Coalinga to Maricopa.
Mr. Semas graduated from Idaho State University in 1983 with a degree in accounting. He is currently a partner at Brown, Neuman and Semas, CPAs in Hanford.
“I am very excited to see Mr. Semas’ postcard collection,” said Eliseo Gamino, director of the CAMP Program at the North District Center. “I feel people will really enjoy the photographs in the collection because they will be able to relate to what they are seeing.”
Michael J. Semas will present at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2nd at Firebaugh Middle School. On Monday, Nov. 5th, he will present in conference room 253 at West Hills College Lemoore at 6 p.m. His last presentation will be at West Hills College Coalinga in the SAM A/B at 6 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 7th.
All events are free and the public is invited. For more detail, contact Eliseo Gamino at 934-2974.
