Thank you for your interest in becoming a candidate for the position of President at West Hills College Coalinga. This is a unique position for the right candidate.
Located on the western edge of California’s Central Valley, WHCC was selected by the MetLife Foundation in 2002 as the small community college nationwide that best meets the needs of a diverse student population. WHCCD also received the State Chancellor’s Diversity Award for Excellence in 2004. In 2010 the North District Center, Firebaugh was recognized by Washington Monthly Magazine as the 34th best in a listing of America’s Best Community Colleges. In September 2011 West Hills College, a member of the C6 Consortium, was granted a $20 million grant. An Hispanic Serving Institution, we have also been selected as a model of civic engagement by Campus Compact, a national coalition of more than 950 college and university presidents. This national recognition is indicative of the progressive approach used by exceptional staff to help students succeed in higher education.
Our Board of Trustees has focused on four primary objectives over the past five years -- accreditation, student success, facilities, and efficiency and effectiveness. Our District and college are organized for the benefit of students and faculty. Our graduation rates have shown consistent growth over the past decade. Additionally, we have been at the forefront of many technological innovations in business operations, instruction, and student services. We like to think that we work smarter than harder.
WHCCD employs almost 90 full-time faculty members, approximately 175 part-time faculty members, and 355 classified and administrative staff.
WHCCD operates differently than most multi-college districts. If you are looking for a traditional operational structure, you will probably find this environment very uncomfortable. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with some ambiguity, see opportunities for growth in our educational programs, and become an engaged resident in our Coalinga community.
