On occasion a DSPS faculty
member will contact you to discuss a matter related to a student.
Generally this occurs because the student is seeking advocacy regarding
the nature of the disability or eligibility for an accommodation. The
DSPS office encourages students to learn self-advocacy skills in which
they communicate directly with their instructors regarding their disabilities.
However, new students sometimes need assistance with this process, and
the DSPS faculty member becomes involved as the facilitator of communication.
