Health Science (General)

Health Science: General - AS Degree

The Health Science General Program is designed for those students planning to transfer to two-year institutions to attain specific and additional training in a particular field of study such as dental hygiene, health care assistant, nursing, and radiology technician. Requirements for admission to each of these programs vary among institutions.

Program student learning outcomes:

  1. Students will clearly articulate the symbiotic relationship of nutrient metabolism and tissue health based upon an integrative approach.
  2. Students will systematically collect, organize, and present appropriate data in graphs, tables, or figures, and assess the validity of the data and interpret it correctly.
  3. Students will evaluate various microbes with regards to infections, treatment, and control.
  4. Students will interpret and analyze data sets involving concepts of concentration, caloric energy, and unit-conversions.
  5. Students will articulate the interconnection between nutrition and homeostasis across the life span.

Students must fulfill the following requirements to qualify for an Associate Degree:

  • Complete the Local General Education, CSU General Education (CSUGE) or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements,
  • Complete a minimum of 18 additional units from the major list below,
  • Complete electives to reach a total of 60-degree applicable units,
  • Earn a grade of C or better in each major course,
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.00, and
  • Complete the English and math proficiency requirements with a C or better
