The outlook for the Falcons in 2009 is promising. They will be anchored by strong pitching and good defense up the middle. The pitching staff will be built around RHP A.J. Comaskey. Comaskey redshirted last year after coming off a productive 2007 season. He was 8-1 for the Falcons with a 1.67 ERA while earning all-conference honors. Supporting Comaskey, will be RHP Scott Kimberling who had 62 K’s in 69 innings of work during the 2008 campaign. Sophomore Trevor Borsak, could be the most dominate of the three with his 92-94 mph fastball. Rounding out the pitching staff will be LHP Scott Salwasser form Buchanan High School. Salwasser was a main cog in the Buchanan staff the past two years. RHP Ryan Castadio [Lemoore] will split time between the mound and 1B and was the Falcon’s most productive pitcher in the fall. Bullpen support will come from J.J. Santistevan and LHP Keenan Pipes. The catching position is in good shape with returner Romero handling the pitchers.  Australian shortstop Daniel Patching will pick up where Vivas left off, while adding more punch offensively. Patching will team up with Mariscal at second base, while freshman Eric Sanchez [Fresno High] and Brian Turner [Central]High will anchor centerfield. Offensively, freshman Alex Gutierrez [Firebaugh], 1B Ryan Acevedo, and Chris Witrado should make an impact for the Falcons.
