Coach Hodsdon was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. He has two sons, Derek, 21 , and Travis, 23 , who both played for the Falcons before moving on to the four year level. Hodsdon attended Central Arizona Junior College on a baseball scholarship. He transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno, on a baseball scholarship where he played catcher and first base for two years. During his senior season he was named All- West Coast Athletic Conference while breaking school records in doubles, runs batted in and slugging percentage. Coach Hodsdon signed professional contracts with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. After that stint, he signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants and later the California Angels. Coach Hodsdon received a B.A. in English and P.E. and later a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno.
In 1977, he was hired as a full time assistant coach at University of Nevada, Reno until 1979 when he took over as the head baseball job at Fallon High School in Churchill County, Nevada. During this period of time Coach Hodsdon served as an assistant principal and English instructor while his baseball team won four league titles and two Nevada state championship runner-ups. He was awarded five different Coaches of the Year Awards during this ten-year span. His next coaching stop was at Central Valley baseball power Hanford High School, where he led his team to seven West Yosemite league championships and a CIF title. His 1995 team was ranked as high as 10th in the country and for two weeks was number one in the State of California, Division 2. He was one of four finalists for California state high school baseball coach of the year honors, and was named the Fresno Bee high school Coach of the Year in 1994 for the Central Valley. In 20 years of coaching high school, Coach Hodsdon won 11 league titles with an overall record of 314-179. In June of 2000, Coach Hodsdon was named Head Baseball Coach at West Hills College and he also serves a s a full time English instructor.
In Hodsdon's first five years at the helm of the baseball program, the Falcons have had a total of 27 student-athletes offered baseball scholarships. Academics are strongly emphasized as the Falcons must participate in a mandatory study hall and academic progress program. Hodsdon stresses that the purpose of the community college system and athletics is to prepare the student athlete to matriculate to the four year level and to be prepared academically.
