Prior to Coach Curran's arrival, the West Hills Falcons had a Team GPA of 1.87 during the 2011 season. However, with the implementation of a strict academic program, Coach Curran's first team finished the 2012 season with a Team GPA of 2.98, just one letter grade away from a combined 3.00 GPA.
Coach Curran's highly-acclaimed academic program, entitled "Academic Excellence, Progress, and Performance Program (AEP3)," requires players to use a 60-page binder, attend face-to-face meetings with coaches every 14 days, visit with tutors,, and participate in weekly study groups. Player's binders are meant to aid the player with time management skills, note-taking skills, and organizational skills.
The Falcon's AEP3 program is working well. In the Spring of 2012, 13 of the team's 23 players finished with GPA's above 3.00. Additionally, West Hills College was one of only two teams in California (out of 86!) to place multiple members on the 19-member CCCBCA All-State All-Academic Team (Nate Achelpohl and Ian Horne).
Falcon players are expected to perform ON THE FIELD and IN THE CLASSROOM!
