Psychiatric Technician Program
The Psychiatric Technician Program at West Hills College Coalinga is a marvelous career opportunity. It could be the beginning of a life-long career in health care. This course trains candidates by combining theory and clinical experience in order to prepare them to take the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician state board examination to become a Licensed Psychiatric Technician.
We accept applications once a year, during the end of the Spring Semester. 30 - 45 students will be accepted from the end of the Spring applicant pool every August and December. Applications are only good for one year. Students are selected by lottery as governed by the Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). The Psychiatric Technician Program is an exciting mix of 675 hours in the classroom and 972 hours of clinical experience in the skills lab and hospital facilities. This course will include Nursing Skills Development, Infection Control, Safety, Patient Care and much, much more.
