Carla Tweed

West Hills Community College District is pleased to announce that Dr. Carla Tweed has been selected to lead West Hills College Coalinga as the College’s 6th President since the District became a multi-college district. 

Dr. Tweed was selected after a nationwide search led by Drs. Benjamin Duran and Jim Riggs of P.P.L., Inc. She will begin her new position on January 14, 2022 and succeeds Dr. Brenda Thames who was promoted to a Superintendent/President position at El Camino College in July of 2021.

Chancellor Kristin Clark said, "We are very excited to welcome Dr. Tweed to the West Hills District. She grew up in the Central Valley and started her educational journey at West Hills. She understands the culture of rural, agricultural communities and is committed to building relationships in the community. Her combination of education, experience, and commitment to the District’s mission, will most certainly help her successfully lead West Hills College Coalinga in its next chapter.” 

Dr. Tweed served as a President at a private college, and at Yuba College as Acting President, Dean of Arts and Education, Dean of Applied Academics, and Executive Vice President.  She is noted for building strong community partnerships and her expertise in compression planning, which she has led at Yuba College and for external agencies such as the Yuba County Office of Education’s Board and the Yuba Water Agency. In addition to her professional experience, she has volunteered with CASA as a Court Appointed Special Advocate to be a voice of victim children.

I am excited to be coming back to the central valley and to the community that I call home.  West Hills is where I began my education and I am committed to advancing the District's goals of the relentless pursuit of student success, diversity, and inclusion”, said Tweed. 

Dr. Tweed holds a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from Chapman University.  

Dr. Tweed’s hobbies include running and biking. She is a triathlete and has competed in a half-iron man with her husband.  She has four children and three grandchildren.
