Campus Safety

The West Hills Community College District has established guidelines (BP 6815, Emergency Response Plan) with the objective of ensuring the well being, safety and security of all personnel, students, visitors and children in child care programs during an emergency and to protect district property.  BP 6819, Fire Safety and Prevention Plan is designed to increase fire safety awareness for all occupants of a building and to minimize the occurrence of situations that may be life threatening.
BP 6815, Emergency Response Plan, addresses the following: 

  • Basic Emergency Response Guidelines 
  • National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) and
  • Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS)
  • Lines of Authority 
  • Phases of Emergency Management 
  • Hazard Analysis 
  • Training and Exercise 
  • Plan Review Cycle 
  • West Hills Community College District Incident Command Systems (ICS)
  • Main (Primary) Evacuation Sites 
  • Evacuation Orders 
  • Handling of Potentially Explosive Devices 
  • Emergency Data Back-up Plan 

BP 6819, Fire Safety and Prevention Plan, is designed to increase fire safety awareness for all occupants of a building and to minimize the occurrence of situations that may be life threatening.
BP 6819 addresses the following:

  • Life Safety Features in Buildings
  • Fire Prevention Measures
  • Response Level
  • Employee Responsibilities
  • Building Fire Alarm System
  • Training Requirements

BP 5850 and AP 5850, Missing Student Notification, is in place to assist in locating a West Hills College student(s) living in college-owned, on-campus housing who, based on the facts and circumstances known to the college, is/are determined to be missing.
BP 3540 and AP 3540focuses on sexual assault or physical abuse.
BP 3540 and AP3540 addresses the following:
A list of personnel on campus and at the District Office who may be notified of an assault;
Available services and points of contact available to provide those services if requested
Available procedures
Modification of class schedules and tutoring, if necessary
BP 5500, Standards of Student Conduct, establishes procedures for student discipline in accordance with the requirement for due process of the federal and state law and regulations.
