What do Dental Hygienists do?

Dental hygienists are part of a team that prevent diseases and tooth decay for their patients. The team members include dentists, dental technicians, and dental assistants. Not only do dental hygienists remove plaque and polish teeth, they also advise their patients and teach them techniques to further stop plaque from appearing again. They also teach their patients how to take care of their teeth. Dental hygienists provide anesthesia for more strenuous procedures like root canals and are involved with periodontal therapies such as soft tissue curettage, root planning, and micro-ultrasonic.
